How to Help

Many of you out there will remember Raimey Gallant as the architect behind last year’s Nano Blog Hop, which put many of its participants (including myself) in touch with each other, either on Twitter, Facebook or through our blogs.

Well, she’s back with a new hop starting soon, entitled the #AuthorToolboxBlogHop. The idea behind it is for those taking part to provide a monthly blog post relating to the art and craft of writing. It’s a great idea and well in keeping with sharing resources and encouraging others.

Raimey sent me a message about this last month and asked if I would be interested in taking part. Now you know me, I like to try to give back all the support and such I can. What worries me is, well not to put too fine a point on it, who the hell am I to try advising anyone on this sort of thing?

I’ve had very little in the way of experience with the business side of things and while I’ve been writing on and off for several years, I’ve never been the most productive. Still, since I started working on this blog in earnest, I’ve had some people respond positively to some of the things I’ve said, so maybe I will have something valid to contribute.

The other thing that concerns me is that the majority of my posts are pretty much freeform journal entries; more general impressions than actual “how to” guides. So how do I my usual process to work for this?

I guess what it comes down to, is that I want to help people, I’m just not sure how best to go about doing so. But I have just under a week to work it out.

  1. I think you’re over thinking. It says #AuthorToolboxBlogHop and it sounds like sharing your tools and share how to use them. Rather than writing a fancy “how to” post or make it sound like you are giving advice. Just share some of your ideas. And it’s not something you’ve not done before.
