Christmas Plans

So, we’ve only got a week to go before Christmas lands and, as often happens, I’m having mixed feelings about it. Last December I did a post explaining the main problem I have with this time of year, so I won’t go into it again. But as I also said in that post things have been better in the past few years.

Usually, the run-up isn’t too bad. Things tend to be quieter at work. I have fun trying to find gifts that will surprise my wife, even if I do second-guess about that a lot. And there’s some good family time to be had.

This year things are a bit more unsettled. The trials of 2017 have left me both tired and on edge, plus my recent back problems have taken their toll as well. Because of that, and a couple other matters, we’ve decided that this year, Christmas will just be the two of us. Well, us and the furry critters, of course.

If I’m 100% honest, that’s a bit of a relief. Thanksgiving seemed to stress me out far more than seems warranted in retrospect. And while our original Christmas plans were nowhere near as hectic as Thanksgiving was, I’m looking forward to having a few days where we get to do little more than be with each other.

Actually, the more I think about it, the better that sounds.
